Storm As Oshiomhole Is Tackled On Foreign Medicals On TV

The National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has been enmeshed in a social media storm after he was called out over his apparent unwillingness to make a stance on foreign medical treatment by public officeholders.

Oshiomhole appeared on Channels Television programme Hard Copy where he was put under pressure as to the propriety of public office holders going on abroad for foreign medical treatment.

A video of the interview which trended on twitter on Monday showed Oshiomhole unusually under pressure as the interviewer challenged him on the issue.

The former Edo state governor was conspicuously discomfited when asked if he has travelled abroad for medical treatment.

In the video, the presenter insisted that Oshiomhole answer his question, in a straightforward manner, as the National Chairman was being evasive.

The following conversation ensued between the presenter and Oshiomhole.

Presenter: You are one of the public officers, who used foreign doctors and travelled abroad for medical treatment, is that correct?

Oshiomhole: You followed me?

Presenter: Are you confirming or denying?

Oshiomhole: I do not think it is about allegations, I think the point you are about to make which is very apt. (Cut off by the presenter)

Presenter: You still travel abroad for medical treatment, till date. Is that wrong or right?

Oshiomhole: Wrong

Presenter: You don’t travel abroad for medical treatment?

Oshiomhole: Wait, listen.

Presenter: I just need some clarifications.

In a bid to buttress the claim that his guest until not too long ago was inclined towards foreign medicals, the presenter quoted Oshiomhile’s reaction to the agitation against President Muhammadu Buhari’s medical vacation in his first term.

He quoted Oshiomhole thus: “I have had cause to travel outside Nigeria for a comprehensive medical check, when I was in doubt. And the experience of Gani Fawehimi shows that…find cause to go and do what we call routine physical check, why would anybody make it such a big issue that any Nigerian, Including our president should be denied the right for thorough medical check.”

After quoting Oshiomhole reaction to Buhari’s foreign medical treatment, the presenter further asked Oshiomhole, if he alluded to the fact that he goes for medical treatment abroad.

“Yeah,” he responded.

The video of the interview has been repeatedly shared on Twitter, and again brought to fore the issue of foreign medical treatment by political leaders and how their inclination caused the neglect of the nation’s health system.

While some twitter users criticized the National Chairman for attempting to be evasive in his response to the presenter’s questions, others faulted the presenter for being hard on Oshiomhole and not allowing him to express himself.
