Alarm As COVID-19 Cases Jump 200% In Lagos
179 New Cases In Lagos; 288 In Nigeria
Against optimism of a gradual reduction in the number of new cases in Lagos, the nation’s commercial, and COVID-19 hotbed, the state has recorded a 208% jump in the number of positive cases jumping from 58 on Thursday to 179 on Friday.
The number of new cases in Lagos contributed 62% of the 288 new cases recorded in the country.
The positive cases were from 15 states of the federation including the FCT.
The NCDC in a tweet late on Friday reported thus:
Cross River and Kogi States remain the only two states yet to report an incident of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Meanwhile, the agency deposed that the total number of 5,445 cases have been confirmed in the country since the outbreak.
Of that number, 3954 Active Cases remain, 1320 cases have been discharged and 171 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The NCDC also said that four cases reported from Plateau states and one case from Akwa Ibom on Thursday were repeated cases.
“Therefore Plateau has a total of 21 cases and Akwa Ibom has a total of 16 cases.
“We apologise to these state governments for this error and remain committed to ensuring accurate reporting,” it said.
