Buhari, Aide Under Fire Over ‘Gift’

Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, has dragged the president into a social media storm over his comment describing the Second Niger Bridge as a legacy gift from Buhari.

Ahmad, in a tweet accompanied with pictures of the Second Niger Bridge under construction, said the bridge when completed will be a gift that will make the Buhari administration indelible in the minds of millions of Nigeria.

He tweeted thus:

Ahmad’s usage of the word “gift” has angered many Nigerians, on the microblogging platform, Twitter.

Some section of Twitter users argued that the provision of basic amenities is the responsibility of a responsible government, and not a gift to the citizens.

@eniturn tweeted: “Bashir Ahmad said the Niger Bridge is a gift to Nigerians from the President. This present government is doing the most, making the citizens see their entitlements as a “Gift”. Very soon they will say Electricity is a gift to us too..Alexa play me “Nonsense” by whoever sang it.”

@UNCLE_AJALA tweeted: “Bashir said the Niger Bridge is a gift to Nigerians from President Buhari, so providing basic infrastructures from Federal government is now a gift to Nigerians, chai Nigerians don suffer, when it’s not that the money is coming from Buhari’s cattle farm, gift kor, souvenir ni.”

And thanks to PMB for liquidating his assets for the purpose of offering this inestimable gift to “millions of Nigerians”. I admire how you have seamlessly bastardized tax payers to ordinary vassals.”
