Claims by a presidential aide, Ahmad Bashir that he didn’t know the full case involving Yunusa Dahiru, the man who abducted 15-year-old Ese Oruru from Bayelsa to Kano and raped her has been dismissed by some Nigerians on twitter.

Basher had in response to a tweet asking for his help to free Yunusa following his conviction by a court had said that he would seek ways to intervene in the issue. He responded in Hausa to the tweet that was made in English.

However, Twitter users who interpreted Bashir’s claim were quick to pounce on him forcing him within hours to deny knowing the full details of the case.

Responding to the outpouring of indignation against him, he said in a tweet:

However, his denial has been generally dismissed with several alleging him of ethnic and religious bigotry in his past social media commentaries.

A twitter user identified as — #Zaddy #PapaBomBoy ? (@GSX2) wrote in a series of tweets:

Hey Bashir, we’ve read through your original response that sparked the backlash & also your retraction. So here’s the verdict. Hammad Yusuf Saleh tweeted you. Imploring you to do something on a criminal case involving a rapist, child molester & kidnapper. The tweet was in English pic.twitter.com/qWLY4APr7H

Hoping others won’t decipher your mischief. But you got it all wrong. Your folly is in the open. The world now have an idea that your crew/principal, superiors & contacts are capable of influencing the carriage of justice. Well, congratulations. You are now global Bashir Ahmaad pic.twitter.com/Tjc6KjFZHN

Bashir Ahmad you have brought the Presidency & Judiciary into disrepute. If your principal was honorable you’d be fired & prosecuted. If you’re honorable you’ll resign & face prosecution. Hammad Yusuf Saleh asked you to tamper with justice and you pledged to contact capable hands pic.twitter.com/ZQFoS5eSMy

The Judiciary should look into this & get to the bottom of it. We wonder how much damage & injustice these capable hands have been carrying out over the years? Lets watch & see if this too will be swept under the carpet. Good morning Nigeria @segalink @DemolaRewaju @Chxta @afalli pic.twitter.com/0LvKGl52Hf

After a thoughtful review. We are of the opinion that Hammad Yusuf Saleh, Bashir Ahmad & those “capable contacts” are an existential threat to democracy, rule of law, peace & security. They should be investigated & if found guilty removed from public office & kept on a watchlist. pic.twitter.com/BHXiAGeNnw

In a sane country, this is enough to fire him but his kind has done worst without consequences

From a different perspective. Yusuf says it’s a case of wrongful conviction. He is asking of help from Bashir for “Appeal”. It is possible he is looking for a competent lawyer and not necessarily to use the man’s influence to change the decision. Only problem is, y tweet in Hausa — Oluchi (@oluchymaduka)

This guy is so so annoyingly daft and has so dangerously exposed himself by the kind of silly things he says. I hope he takes a moment to think about the likes of Al Mustapha and Col Dasuki because at this rate Bashir could end up being the fall guy when Buhari goes. — kellz/FORMERLY A NIGERIAN (@purekellz) May 23, 2020

Ordinary Bashir knows people who can influence the judgment of a court in Nigeria of today??

The NJC supported the removal of CJN Onnoghen and endorsed a lackey who mounted the throne…

That’s the day Judiciary died!— IKECHUKWU (@iykimo)

Do u remember u once tweeted Arewa win when Buhari, madam Amina and the other Nigeria representative at the UN conference were pictured together, not until madam @abikedabiri came and corrected u that u have said Nigeria won since they are all representing Nigeria .

One notable exception who was willing to forgive was this:

We are all human Bashir and we comment on the basis of our humanity. I do not condemn you.
