The COVID-19 pandemic entered the five-figure level on Sunday after 307 new cases of the disease were reported in 14 states and the FCT.

The new cases brought the total number of cases to 10,107 with 287 deaths, a mortality rate of 2.8%.

Lagos which has been the hotbed of the pandemic in Nigeria reported 188 new cases on Sunday representing 61% of the total cases reported in the country.

The high figures and proportion of the cases reported in Lagos according to state government officials flowed from the ramp up on testing in the state. The officials explained that the increased testing was exposing cases that otherwise would have gone unreported.

There were also 14 deaths across the country on account of COVID-19, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC reported on its twitter handle late on Sunday.
