Kogi Judgment: APC, PDP Chiefs Trade Words

Supporters of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State and Engr. Wada Musa, his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP rival in the recent governorship election have sharply disagreed over the outcome of the election tribunal judgment that favoured the governor.

Bello who was the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate in the election and was returned by the electoral authorities had his victory upheld in a split judgment by 2-1 by the tribunal.

Wada has rejected the judgment and indicated his readiness to appeal.

Mr. Ehimoni Joshua, an APC chieftain and Capt. Joe Agada, the PDP agent at the collation centre spoke in separate comments following the tribunal judgment.

Joshua, a lawyer in his reaction faulted the claims of the PDP saying that “election matters are fought on the altar of credible and proven evidence. To the best of my knowledge the PDP was not able to prove their allegation.”

“These are claims that must be proved beyond reasonable evidence. He alleged that there was over voting in 724 polling units.  During the trial they abandoned their claims in 13 Local Government Areas and focused on seven local government areas.

“In Okene where Bello scored more than 200,000 votes no single witness was called to collaborate thei claims. The evidence of the expert witness was largely based on hearsay. The expert witness admitted in court that he is lacked the expertise to read finger prints,” he said.

Debunking the claims, Capt. Agada said:

“We demonstrated the video of the helicopter that killed people. We demonstrated the picture of the people who were killed.

“It was demonstrated in open court the way the manipulation was used by the forensic expert. We gave them two days and they could not cross examine the evidence of forensic experts.

According to Agada, the PDP was focusing its claims in seven local government areas where he said the  239,000 counted for Bello were unlawful credited to him.
