UNIBEN Girl: Fury Over Claim Police Asked For Mobility Money
By Ayodele Oluwafemi
The Nigeria Police Force has again come under attack on the social media, following an allegation by the sister of Uwaila Omozuwa, the girl who was raped and murdered in a church in Benin city, that the police demanded “mobility fee” from her father when the incident was reported.
The video of the interview of Uwaila’s sister, on Tuesday, appeared on Twitter, sparking outrage against the police.
In the video, Uwaila’s sister accused the police of asking for “mobility fee” when her father filed a complaint in one of the police stations in Benin City.
She expressed displeasure toward the manner the issue was handled by the police, noting that they demanded for money before investigating the murder of her sister.
“I am very disappointed in the Nigeria Police Force. Nigeria Police said they needed mobility money first before they can do their job, they said they needed mobility money before they will do justice.
“Some (referring to police officers) are even saying that my sister death happened May 14th, my sister death happened May 27th.”
Some Twitter users also narrated similar experiences of how “mobilization fee” was demanded when they reported issues at police stations.
