Senator Rochas Okorocha’s political future in his Imo State base was becoming an issue at the weekend after two of his foremost political rivals fused into one political entity.

Okorocha was left bare and alone after Senator Osita Izunaso, the erstwhile National Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC fused his political machine into that of the governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma.

Senator Izunaso, the penultimate senator for Imo West Senatorial district was succeeded by Senator Hope Uzodinma, the incumbent governor of the state who was himself succeeded in the seat by his own predecessor as governor of the state, Okorocha.

Okorocha faces a lonely future

All three men had until now operated on different platforms, but essentially with antagonistic attitude towards Okorocha who served as governor for eight years. Izunaso was replaced as National Organising Secretary of the APC upon the heavy campaign put forward by Okorocha.

Izunaso at a brief ceremony at the Government House, Owerri on Thursday night declared that he and his supporters had decided to collapse their Senator Osita Izunaso Political Organization into Governor Uzodinma’s political structure.

The move was immediately welcomed by the governor who said that there was wisdom in closing ranks.

The Governor commended the group for the right decision they took on their own, and promised to pursue an administration of “a united Imo of Unity, Unity and Unity” to the benefit of all.

The former governor, one political stakeholder said at the weekend, would have his hand full should the combination of Uzodinma and Izunaso fight him in the 2023 Senate contest.

On the reason for the visit, the leader of the group, Senator Izunaso said they had consulted wildly and resolved to identify with Governor Uzodinma, congratulate him and assure him of their solidarity and unalloyed support.

Izunaso harped on the need for the Governor to work with his colleagues APC Governors toward ensuring that the party wins more States by 2023 elections.

It is also believed that the group could also be positioning Senator Izunaso to fight Okorocha ahead of the 2023 Senate contest.

The three men are about the most prominent political leaders in the APC in Imo West, a region that was once firmly in the grabs of Senator Arthur Nzeribe.
