Mixed reactions have continued to trail reports that former Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke, who is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC over corruption allegations, has become a citizen and commissioner of the Commonwealth of Dominican Republic.

Diezani is wanted in Nigeria for sundry allegations of corruption, including fraudulent ownership of 76 properties in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, valued at about N23 billion.

She has a 14-count charge bordering on stealing and concealment of $153 million already preferred against her by the EFCC.

Recently, the acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Maju urged Nigerians in Diaspora to pressurize the UK government to release Diezani to Nigeria for trial.

“Nigerians in the United Kingdom need to collaborate with the EFCC more and pressure the authorities there to assist the EFCC in bringing Diezani to trial,” Magu was quoted saying.

At one point, there were media reports that Diezani is suffering from cancer in the UK with pictures showing the Petroleum Minster in emaciated state, a development that elicited public sympathy.

The recent development on Diezani’s whereabouts have been greeted with mixed reactions on the microblogging platform, as some Nigerians have reacted to the issue.

A section of Twitter users argued that the former petroleum minister outsmarted the country, by acquiring the citizenship of another country, obviously in a bid to avoid trial from her country.

Another section of Twitter users opined that the tactics of Diezani is similar to that of former military dictator, late Sani Abacha, noting that what a man can do, a woman can surely do and better.
