EFCC Vows Appeal As Court Snubs Forfeiture Order On Assets Linked To Oduah

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Monday vowed to appeal the decision of a Federal High Court to vacate the interim forfeiture order regarding some assets traced to former Aviation Minister, Senator Stella Oduah.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, in the ruling, struck out the EFCC’s counter-affidavit on the ground that it “was filed out of time without first seeking the court’s leave for an extension of time to file”.

The assets in question referred to two companies and their assets which the EFCC said it believed were built from the proceeds of corruption.

However, Justice Inyang Ekwo had in his judgment, vacated the interim forfeiture order on the claim that the two companies, Crystal Television Limited and Sabora International Limited, had no links to the former aviation minister and incumbent senator for Anambra North.

The assets of Crystal Television Limited which is located in the Kaura District of Abuja included 20 crates of television/radio equipment, two installed cooling units, one top class Total Energy 274KVA generator, and mast more than 120 feet.

Delivering his judgment Justice Ekwo ruled that the EFCC misrepresented facts by saying that Oduah “is the owner of Sobora International Limited and Crystal Television Limited”.

“On the strength of the EFCC’s misrepresented and misleading application, the court on May 15, 2017, granted order of interim forfeiture/attachment of properties belonging to the two companies,” Justice Ekwo ruled.
