Shock As Katsina Protesters Burn Buhari’s Billboard

Published

on

The unprecedented Tuesday burning of the effigy of President Muhammadu Buhari and that of Governor Aminu Masari in Yan Tumaki Town, Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State has generated a sharp reaction from Nigerians.

The angry protesters burnt down a billboard bearing the picture of President Buhari and Governor Masari and followed up by barricading the Katsina-Kankara major highway as they vented against the spate of killings by bandits in the state.

The bandits, on Monday, June 1, 2020, killed Abu Atiku, a district head, and APC council chairman of Batsari Local Government Area of the state.

Recall that the state government had withdrawn its peace deal with bandits in the state, in the wake of increasing rate of the killings in the state.

As the event circulated across the country on Tuesday it immediately elicited sharp reactions on Twitter with some mocking that the protesters were IPOB members.

The irony of the protest in President Buhari’s political foothold was not lost on many of the commentators.
