Further indications of a rift between Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State and his predecessor, Rauf Aregbesola emerged on Tuesday following news reports of the disruption of a programme directed towards the governor’s second term project by a former aide of Aregbesola’s.

Rasheed Opatola, who served as Special Adviser on Environment in the Aregbesola government was fingered by an All Progressives Congress, APC chieftain in the state of sponsoring the bandits who disrupted the inauguration of a ‘4 + 4 = Oyetola’ programme.

Opatola was, however, quick to dismiss the allegation as he told The Punch that he was in a meeting when the fracas happened on Sunday.

The fracas came against the background of insinuations of a mutterings between the incumbent governor and his predecessor over yet unstated issues.

It is, however, known that Governor Oyetola has reversed several policies and programmes of the former governor.

The APC chieftain, Manashe Ehile had told The Punch, that the programme to launch Oyetola’s second term bid was marred by thugs who stormed the St. Stephen’s ‘B’ Primary School, Famia Road venue.

According to him 12 of the thugs when they were apprehended mentioned Opatola as having sent them.

“One particular man called ‘Ori’ was said to be destroying the billboard of ‘4 +4 = Oyetola at the venue. But when we got to the venue, we calmed people down.

“Later, some thugs were sent to disrupt the event. We were able to identify and apprehended some of them and they said Rasheed Opatola sent them.

“About 12 of them were apprehended and we later released them after they apologised and confessed that they were sent,” Ehile said.

The allegation according to the newspaper were quickly dismissed by Opatola who gave as his alibi that he was in a meeting with 18 other party leaders from his area.
