Edo APC attacked

The emergence of three acting national chairmen of the ruling, All Progressive Congress, APC has cast doubt on the potentials of the party to lead the country out of the plethora of challenges.

Social commentators have taken to the social media to air their views on the leadership crisis rocking the ruling party.

The leadership crisis was ignited when the Appeal Court, on Tuesday, upheld the suspension of the APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole by the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja. The court ordered that Oshiomhole should be denied the rights and privileges reserved for the post of the national chairman of the party, due to the suspension of Oshiomhole by his ward in Etsako and ratified by the state chapter of the party.

Filling the gap, the APC National Working Committee, in a statement, on Tuesday evening, by its Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu announced the appointment of former governor of  Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, who is the deputy national chairman, South, as the acting national chairman.

However, Ajimobi cannot act as the acting national chairman of the party as he is currently down with COVID-19.

The leadership crack was further deepened when the national secretary of the APC, Victor Giadom announced himself as the acting national chairman, citing that court verdict that suspended Oshiomhole, asked him to act as the capacity of the national chairman.

Giadom annulled the APC screening process of the Edo state 2020 governorship primary supervised by Oshiomhole.

In a swift reaction, 15 of the 19 members of the NWC loyal to Oshiomhole, on Wednesday, announced the appointment of the party’s national vice chairman (South South), Prince Hilliard Etta, noting that Ajimobi is indisposed to act in that capacity.

Technically, three national chairmen have emerged in the ruling party, in less than 24 hours, a development that is not a good omen to the stability of the party.

Many Nigerians have taken to the microblogging platform, Twitter to react to the crisis rocking the ruling party and its implications on the development of the country.
