We Will Drop Obaseki If… Edo PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP will not field Governor Godwin Obaseki as its candidate if he fails to get the courts to lift the injunction set against his participation in the governorship primary of the party, the Edo State chairman of the party, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi has said.
Speaking in an interview, Dr. Aziegbemi, however, expressed optimism that the party and the governor would successfully navigate the issues arising from the court action filed by a governorship aspirant in the party, Rep. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama.
Ogbeide-Ihama was the leading governorship aspirant with the backing of the party establishment until the coming of the governor into the party. He had obtained a court injunction from a Port-Harcourt Federal High Court to bar the governor from participating in the governorship primary on the claim that the sale of forms had lapsed by the time the governor joined the party.
Affirming that the party is a lawful party which will not disobey orders of the court, Dr. Aziegbemi when asked on how the party would respond if the order of the court is not lifted, said:
“We will not disobey court orders, we will not go against whatever the court says,” Dr. Aziegbemi said in an interview on TVC.
He, however, said he was very confident that the issue would be sorted out both “in court or out of court.”
“We are not only hoping on solving the problem on the legal point of view, we will continue to sort out the issue using the political solution.
“The court order put some breaks, we are a law abiding party but that is not saying that we will not do what we have to do.
He said that the party has done fairly well in the sense that unlike other parties and states that only one litigation was brought up against the party’s primary.
Affirming that the PDP was in strong position to win the September election, he said:
“Anybody that our delegates pick will win the governorship election clearly. Imagine a sitting governor joining you from all and we have the PDP traditional structure in place. It is clear that the PDP will win the election,” he said.
