Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has dismissed mutterings following the hosting of the National Executive Committee, NEC meeting of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the council chambers of the Presidential Villa, describing it as a national assignment.
Speaking in an interview on Saturday, the governor also revealed that up to ten governors belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP were set to defect to the APC.
Bello who spoke in an interview on Channels Television monitored by GWG also dismissed insinuations that the decisions of NEC were taken against the interest of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
While defending the hosting of the APC NEC in the council chamber of the Presidential Villa, he said that the president was open to receiving PDP members also inside the council chambers.
“Mr. President doesn’t work alone, Mr. President seeks every advice, including legal advice before he acts. Mr. President does not act illegally, he does not take any action that is contrary to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Bello said.
“What happened was a national assignment, and it behooves on Mr. President to ensure that every section of the country is carried along,” Governor Bello said.
Affirming that the APC was stronger despite the defection of Governor Godwin Obaseki to the PDP, he said:
“It is unfortunate that my colleague, my brother and my in-law has left us but as a loyal party man we have to retain it,” he said.
“I can tell you that there are up to 10 PDP governors wanting to join APC and that is going to happy very soon.”
Dismissing insinuations that Tinubu had been undermined by the decision to sack the Adams Oshiomhole led NWC, he said that the former Lagos State governor remains one of the most respected national leaders who has earned his respect in the affairs of the party.
“Nobody can say that he is being undermined or he is going to be removed. He plays a fatherly role. He needs us and we need him,” he said.’
