Nigerians Want Police To Address Ibadan Killings

The killings in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State have become a source of worry to residents and many Nigerians.

Akinyele LGA has witnessed seven incidents of violence, leading to five deaths and two persons sustaining injuries, in the month of June.

On June 1st, an 18-year-old student of Federal College of Animal and Production Technology Moore Plantation, Apata, Ibadan, Barakat Bello was reportedly raped and murdered in Akinyele, Ibadan.

On June 5th, Azeezat Shomuyiwa of Ijefun community, 29, was reportedly murdered in the same LGA as Barakat. She was carrying a seven week pregnancy before she was murdered by assailants.

The Oyo State Police Command said her murder was similar to that of ritual killing, promising to investigate and bring perpetrators to book.

On June 15th, Grace Oshiagwu, a 21-year-old National Diploma Student of Business Administration, Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, Oyo State was raped and killed at Idi-Ori Area, Shasha off Expressway in Akinyele. The scenario was similar to that of Azeezat.

On June 22nd, Mujeeb Tirimisiyu, a 5-year-old boy was macheted to death in Tose area of the same LGA, when he left home to defecate beside the house.

On June 24th, a 42-year-old woman, Olusayo Fagbemi was murdered at Sasa community of the same LGA, while washing plates in front of her house at 5:40am.

Over the weekend, 45-year old woman, Adeola Bamidele and her daughter, Dolapo Bamidele were attacked in their place of residence at the midnight by assailants, leading to several cuts in their faces at Akinyele LGA.

The spate of violent cases in the area has drawn the attention of many Nigerians who have taken to the microblogging platform, Twitter, to call on the authorities including the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to address the security challenges in the area.
