Mr. Ifedayo Abegunde has resigned his appointment as the Secretary to the Ondo State Government. He resigned vide a letter to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

He did not give any reason for his resignation.

However, sources in the state say the resignation could be traced to the relegation of his office and person in the Akeredolu government.

“His office and almost all his responsibilities had been shared between the Chief of Staff to the Governor and the Head of Service,” one source familiar to the development told GWG.

“We are even surprised that he stayed this long because he was more or less a figure head SSG as he just held the position by title with no responsibility,” the source said.

Abegunde who is from the vote rich Ondo Central Senatorial District it was alleged was appointed for political expediency to give a sense of belonging to the people of the senatorial district, however, his duties were shared by the HoS and the CoS who interestingly are from Owo just like the governor.

The resignation is bound to elicit concerns for the governor ahead of the forthcoming election.

Governor Akeredolu is presently in self-isolation after he was confirmed to have tested positive for COVID-19.

Before now, the governor was also troubled by the defection of his deputy, Mr. Agboola Ajayi bringing to a situation that the second and third persons in his administration have left him.
