Twist In D’Banj Rape Case As Fmr Manager Speaks

A new twist in the rape allegation against popular Nigerian musician, Dapo Oyebanjo, aka D’Banj emerged on Monday after the musician’s former manager Frank Amudo opened up on the rape allegation saying the incident happened shortly after the musician lost his child.

Ms. Seyitan Babatayo had alleged that she was raped in her hotel room in Glee Hotel by D`Banj after she had turned down his proposal in Eko Hotel and Suites in December, 2018.

According to her, the incident happened after Mr. Amudo had given her the card key to a room in Glee Hotel to sleep. She said D`Banj followed her to the hotel room and collected a spare key from the hotel staff with which he gained access into her room and raped her.

D’Banj has repeatedly denied the rape allegation and has filed a N1.5billion suit against Ms. Babatayo, through his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN).

There were insinuations on social media that the rape scandal was part of a smear campaign by the former manager to hit at D’Banj after they fell out.

However, reacting to the rape allegation for the first time in a video, Mr. Amudo affirmed that he indeed invited Ms. Babatayo to the party and gave her the key card to her hotel room in Glee Hotel, without the knowledge of D’Banj.

The former manager said that after the party in 2018, they had planned to take a trip to Accra which they actually did and he, D’Banj and his wife were in Accra, when Ms. Babatayo informed him via WhatsApp voice notes that she was allegedly raped by D’Banj.

Amudo disclosed that he could not confront D’Banj of the rape accusation as he could not bring up such a matter in front of D’Banj’s wife, considering they just lost their son.

He said:
“I was in Accra after that party. I just saw that my phone kept ringing and I looked at it, Seyitan but we were in the car to the apartment and I did not pick.

“When I got to the apartment, I put on the Wi-Fi and I saw her (Seyitan) message and I called her back. The first question she asked me was that, ‘were you aware that D’Banj was coming to my room,’ I said, No.

“That was when she made allegation that D’Banj came to her room and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her. She said it via voice notes. The voice notes are there I can even play the voice note for you to hear.

“When she said that, I was disturbed. What is all this?

He further disclosed  that he called a friend who lodged at the Glee hotel, Ajia Mohammed, to inform him about the rape allegation but he was told not to bother himself with it that Ms Babatayo had been settled with $100.

“I called Ajia Mohammed in Lagos. Bro, see what I’m hearing. What is your own take about it? He said, no, do not bother yourself that it has been resolved that in fact he even gave the girl (Seyitan) a $100.

“I called Seyitan back, madam what is all this? They said they gave you $100 and why are your talking about rape and everything? She got angry and she sent other  voice notes saying they actually told her (Seyitan) not to tell me because they thought she was my girlfriend.

She added ‘I’m telling you so that you know the kind of people, you are working with.” Amudo said.
