Third Mainland Bridge advisory

Intense criticisms have continued to trail the news that the Federal Government will shut the Third Mainland Bridge for repair works.

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olukayode Popoola, on Monday, said the Third Mainland Bridge repair will likely start on July 24 and last for six months.

“We want to do maintenance work on Third Mainland Bridge very soon, most likely on the 24th. We may close it from 24th of July.

“We are still working out the modalities and when we perfect the traffic management plan, we will move to site,” he said.

The development has been greeted with harsh criticisms from many Nigerians especially those residing in Lagos, who highlighted the plight they will face as a result of the close down of the bridge.

A twitter user @LipsyOchie tweeted: “They had the whole lockdown period to work on third mainland bridge, but they didn’t. Instead of easing the stress off Nigerians, govt keep adding more problems.?”

Many Twitter users argued that FG should have used the period of the lockdown in Lagos to repair the road and not now when people are trying to get back their lives after COVID-19 lockdown.

A section of Twitter users opined that those staying in Lagos Island but who work in Lagos Mainland will suffer terribly during the period of the bridge repairs as some major roads in Lagos are also undergoing repairs.

Some Lagos residents asked whether the bridge repairs will be possible during this raining season.
