Ondo house dissolved

A member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Jamiu Maito who resigned his position as majority leader of the assembly has revealed how reports of an alleged N10 million bribe supposedly paid to members to facilitate the impeachment of the deputy governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi led to the suspension of three members.

Maito was until Wednesday the majority leader of the House who according to him sat with officials of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC and Speaker of the House of Assembly to propound the exit of the deputy governor after his defection.

Maito said that he promised the meeting that he would work on the deputy governor to resign from office within two weeks and if he failed that he would coordinate the impeachment given that he could must 18 legislators to back him.

Maito who was speaking on an AIT morning programme said that he was, however, shouted upon at the meeting as his suggestion was overlooked.

…all of us started receiving messages from across the federation and the state, people challenging us that we should bring their share and that ‘they have confirmed you have gotten N10 million for the impeachment,” Maito said.

He said that he and a number of the legislators could not easily append their signatures to the impeachment notice as requested because of the good relationship between them and the deputy governor.

“If I had to append my signature to the impeachment I  would not have peace for the rest of my life and I know that there were other people like that,” he said.

According to him things, however, got out of control when reports of a N10 million bribe to facilitate the impeachment started swirling.

“Immediately after the rumour started going round that members of the House of Assembly had been given N10 million to impeach the deputy governor, all of us started receiving messages from across the federation and the state, people challenging us that we should bring their share and that ‘they have confirmed you have gotten N10 million for the impeachment,” Maito said.

“That was why I appended my signature with the nine other members so that people would not call me again,” he said.
