All Progressives Congress, APC governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Mr. Isaac Kekemeke has said that the use of indirect primary could harm the party ahead of the 2020 governorship election in the state.

Speaking in an interview, Kekemeke said all 12 but one of the aspirants in the race are insisting on the use of direct primary for the election to select the party’s candidate.

The only aspirant against the use of the direct primary despite his assertions in public he said is Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Kekemeke who is the pioneer chairman of the party in the state also said that Governor Akeredolu has done his best for the state but that his best is not good enough for the state.

Kekemeke who spoke in an interview with AIT on Monday said:

“Direct primary is the option for us and the majority of party members want the direct primary. We are suggesting to the caretaker committee to adopt that mode in the interest of the party as preferred by the majority of the party members.”

“The party constitution says that there can be three modes. If you want to resort to indirect the constitution says that there have to be congresses which have not happened.

“We are drawing our party’s attention to the fact that if you have to do indirect that there must be congresses to elect delegates that will form the electoral college which has not happened,” as he warned that going ahead with indirect could lead to post primary judicial disputes.

“The wisdom in it is that direct primary is not constitutionally encumbered,” he said.

“We are also saying that our leadership should be consistent because if direct primaries was used to conduct primaries in Edo, Lagos, Osun then why not use it in Ondo,” he asked.

Asked to assess the governor’s performance, Kekemeke said:
“The governor has done his best but with his best we still have hunger, with his best we have poverty, we have insecurity and that is not good enough.”
