VIP Status: Fani-Kayode Leads Outrage Against Yari

Many Nigerians have called for the arrest of the former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari for violating COVID-19 protocol at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport.
The former governor, according to a statement released by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), on Wednesday, was said to have pushed away an airport official at the Mallam Aminu Kano airport who had sought to disinfect his luggage on the claim that he was a VIP.
The agency said, “He refused to adhere to the protocols and procedures put in place by the federal government through the presidential task force (PTF) on COVID-19 by forcefully pushing away an officer of the environment department when he insisted that his luggage must be disinfected.
“The former governor said the officer should have known he is a VIP. This irresponsible act endangers all other airport users, it is unacceptable, and as such it has been duly escalated.
Minutes after the incident was published on the social media, many Nigerians have called for the former governor’s arrest, while questioning why Yari was not arrested immediately the incident occurred.
The former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode took the charge as he lambasted the former governor for assaulting FAAN officials, stressing that there is need to call Yari to order.
Fani-Kayode said he would have gotten Yari arrested, if he were the Minster of Aviation, and banned him from travelling through the airports.
He also accused the former governor of masterminding the gruesome killings in Zamfara State, during his tenure as governor.
