Governor Nyesom Wike’s action on Thursday in rescuing the erstwhile acting managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Ms. Joi Nunieh from the captivity of yet unidentified policemen has received positive commendation from Nigerians.

Ms. Nunieh had caused national apprehension when she accused the minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswil Akpabio of serial corruption and sexual harassment on the sidelines of the investigation into the affairs of the NDDC.

Some men of the Nigeria Police Force had laid siege to her Port Harcourt residence as early as 4.30 a.m. on Thursday reportedly with the aim of arresting her.

The former NDDC managing director was expected to face the National Assembly panel probing the mismanagement of over N80billion in the NDDC.

On Thursday, the social media was flooded with pictures, showing police laying siege to Nuineh’s residence. The purpose of the policemen in arresting her was not immediately clear.

In the midst of the standoff Wike following her shout out stormed Nuineh’s residence and took her away.

I commend Gov. Wike for his bravery in rescuing Joi Nunieh from illegal arrest; he has proven that he’s a Governor-General. Despite Party affiliation, he has shown that all Rivers Citizens are one. We wish @MBuhari can fight for Nigerians the way Wike has done for Rivers Citizens

Video of the incident has appeared on the social media with Nigerians commending the governor for showing courage in the face of injustice and oppression.

This is not the first time, Wike will be standing against illegal detention of high profile personalities in Rivers State as governor. He had during his first term prevented operatives of the DSS to arrest a judge in the state.
