Why Ekiti Shifted Resumption Of Religious Meetings

The Ekiti State Government has given reasons for postponing the resumption of religious gatherings by one month to the lack of preparations by the bodies to adhere to the COVID-19 protocol to be adopted.

The resumption of gatherings in churches and mosques was shifted by the state administration from July 14 to August 14.

A statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, giving insights into the administration’s determination to ensure that everything was set before the resumption read in part:
“The latest communiqué of CAN is indicative of the fact that worship centres are not yet ready to comply with conditions stipulated as guidelines and conditions set out by the government for reopening of worship centres.

“In view of the foregoing, the state government has shifted the date for the reopening of worship centres on August 14, 2020, to give the worship centres enough time to meet the prescribed conditions for the reopening,” she said.

The Commissioner  further added that persons in the age ranges 1 -12 and 65 and would be exempted from attending congregational programmes because of their vulnerability.

Yaya-Kolade stated: “The churches are permitted to hold their programmes once in a week and should last for just two hours.”
