How Jegede Beat Dep-Gov For Ondo PDP Ticket

A re-match of the Ondo State 2016 governorship election was fixed on Wednesday night after Eyitayo Jegede emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP at the party’s primary.

He is to battle Rotimi Akeredolu who emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC at the primaries of the ruling party last Monday.

Jegede’s emergence as the PDP candidate with 888 votes came in the face of a strong challenge by the outgoing deputy governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi who came second with 657 votes.

The PDP’s National Vice Chairman, Dr Eddy Olafeso, came third with 175 votes while Dr.  Bode Ayorinde scored 95 votes, Mr Banji Okunomo polled 90, Senator Boluwaji Kunlere got 33, Sola Ebiseni got 29 and Godday Erewa scored 13 votes.

There were at least 2,122, delegates from the 18 local government areas of the state who participated in the indirect primary election that started early on Wednesday.

The exercise was supervised by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.
