The picture of former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, kneeling before Enogies, asking for their support in the September 2020 governorship election evoked a mixed emotion on Monday.

In the picture, Oshiomole was seen appealing to them to help unseat his now estranged godson, Godwin Obaseki.

Oshiomole, still smarting from his ouster as National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) had stormed Edo State vowing not to leave the state until Ize-Iyamu emerges victorious in the election.

The campaign of the APC team came at a time the PDP was already airing on the television and radio sound bites of the 2016 campaign where Oshiomole accused the APC candidate (then in PDP) of various crimes.

However, the new message by Oshiomole this time is that Ize-Iyamu has changed or that he made a mistake then.

Speaking about Obaseki this time, Oshiomole said “To those I sold the product that turned out to be fake, God you know I didn’t know he was fake. Only time shall tell who a man is. In the name of the poor he has borrowed to consultants he transferred the money. During his election, there were printers from Edo State who printed his posters but after being elected, even menu cards are printed in Port Harcourt.

In the past, Oshiomole had described Obaseki as a technocrat and brain behind his successes in eight years.

Also in the past Oshiomole spoke passionately of how he ended godfatherism in the state.

However, this time around, people who saw him kneel down before the Enigies begin to question the motive.

This was captured by Governor Aminu Tambuwal, the incumbent governor of Sokoto State and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, who said that the prayer of the Sokoto people “is with them in the battle against godfatherism.

“You cannot eat your cake and still have it. You cannot be everywhere condemning godfatherism and you still want to be a godfather. In Nigeria, Edo State is a strategic state. We know where we are coming from and so no one can come to Edo to claim superiority.
