Twitter, Facebook Remove COVID-19 Chloroquine Cure Video

The trending video of a Nigerian trained but United States based medical doctor, Dr. Stella Immanuel praising hydroxyl-chlroroquine as a remedy for COVID-19 has been removed by major social media channels including Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.

In the video, Dr. Immanuel surrounded by some other medical doctors had claimed that she had treated more than 350 persons with the chlorquine therapy without any failure.

The video which was first published by Breitbart News, a right-wing medium co-founded by Steve Bannon, who worked for President Donald Trump.

President Trump had shared the video with his 84 million followers.

The video was one of the most watched videos with more than 14 million views on Facebook before it was taken down on Monday night. It had also been shared

The video quickly went viral on Facebook, becoming one 600,000 times.

“We’ve removed this video for sharing false information about cures and treatments for COVID-19,” a Facebook spokesperson told CNN, adding that the platform is “showing messages in News Feed to people who have reacted to, commented on or shared harmful COVID-19-related misinformation that we have removed, connecting them to myths debunked by the WHO.”

Twitter also removed the video after President Trump shared the video on his twitter handle.

“We’re taking action in line with our Covid misinfo policy,” a Twitter spokesperson also told CNN.

The video was also removed from YouTube where at least 40,000 persons had viewed it as at Monday night.

YouTube said it violated ‘YouTube’s Community Guidelines.”
