Obaseki’s Campaign Director Resigns
Orbih Gives Reason
By GWG Staff
Godwin Obaseki suffered another loss on Tuesday when Mr. Patrick Iyoha, director, Obaseki/Shaibu Movement and a member of the state Waste Management Board, resigned his appointment.
The Obaseki/Shaibu Movement was formed prior to the governor’s emergence as a candidate and was formed to advocate his second term aspiration.
The gale of resignations was, however, dismissed by Chief Dan Orbih, national vice-chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and chairman of the PDP Governorship Campaign Council.
Orbih said those resigning were stooges of Adams Oshiomhole who were forced on Obaseki by the erstwhile governor of the state.
Iyoha in a letter dated July 28, addressed to Gov. Godwin Obaseki, said that his resignation was with immediate effect and due to personal reason.
Similarly, two members, including Mr Gabriel Oiboh, Chairman, State Post Primary Education Board, also rendered their letters of resignation to the governor.
Oiboh and first member of the board, Mr Osanyemwere Osawe, in a letter dated July 28, said that their resignations followed pressure to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Earlier, three commissioners of the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Area Development Commission had on Monday reigned their appointments.
The commisioners — Osamwonyi Atu, Emmanuel Odigie and Rilwanu Oshiomhole — represented Edo South, Edo Central and Edo North senatorial districts.
Responding to the development, Orbih said that the resignations were not surprising adding that more resignations of those forced on Obaseki in government by Oshiomhole would also happen.
“A few months ago the governor came out clearly to say that he was governor but not governor because all the appointments in the state were influenced by one man and that is the person of Adams Oshiomhole.
“Some of us advised the governor that there was no need to dissolve his cabinet and that there was no need to dissolve the boards, let Edo people see that Adams was responsible for all the appointments.
“The battle that Godwin Obaseki is fighting is the battle for the liberation of the state. The people of this state have decided that enough of Adams Oshiomhole’s role in the politics of this sstate, government, they will re-elect Godwin Obaseki as governor of this state.”
