Optimism As COVID-19 Cases Continue Decline

Optimism for Nigeria overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic continued in the new month as the number of new cases in the country decreased for the third straight day in August with 288 new cases recorded on August 3.

It was the lowest number of cases recorded in the last month. Even significantly, Lagos State, the epicenter of the disease in the country for the fourth straight day recorded new cases below double digits well below the three-digit figures recorded for most of June and July.

On August 1 the country had recorded 386 new cases, on August 2, 304 new cases were recorded before Monday’s 288 new cases.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC in its daily report on twitter announced that the 288 new cases were recorded in 14 states and the FCT on Monday.

Lagos led the number of new cases with 88 followed by Kwara, Osun and FCT with 33, 27 and 25 respectively.

The new cases brought the total number of cases in the country to 44,129 with 22,663 discharged and 896 dead.
