Lauretta Onochie, President Muhammadu Buhari’s special assistant on social media has come under strong attack after condemning the action of Mrs. Toluwaoloju Ajayi, the woman in the popular ‘calm down’ skit with her injunction for her punishment.

Ms Onochie said the video was a clear case of child abuse which brought a trauma on the child and that the lady if she were in the UK would be sent to prison.

The viral video was, however, a background for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Sallah message last weekend and fetched the mother and child a gubernatorial appreciation.

Her assertion was, however, strongly rebuffed by a number of twitter users who said her assertion of child rights was extreme in the case between the four year old and his mother.

“I was distressed by the calm down video. I can’t imagine the trauma that child and other children who watched it, went through. We must make laws that protect children in our nation,” she said on a post on twitter.

Continuing, she said:

“There are better and more effective and humane ways of effecting behavioural changes in children the calm down video, is a clear case of child abuse. That was not discipline. TIMES HAVE CHANGED 2020.

“Many Nigerian adults today, are suffering from the effects of similar abuse when they were children. In the UK, the child would be in care, his mother charged,” she said.

Her assertion with a few exceptions was largely rebuffed by twitter users who responded thus:

That the mother even made a video of it and posted it on SM was what suprised me the most. And i am suprised even the Lagos State Governor made reference to it as a way of encouraging people instead of condemning it

I was really against that video especially watching that child go through all of that… There are better ways to discipline a child. The person that recorded the 'calm down' video, abused that poor child! We joke too much in this country.

I believe there's a wide difference between child abuse & discipline..
If it was a case of child abuse, you obviously would have seen the boy with swollen face & all

A mom made a video and pleaded with the government for justice because a tanker fell on her daughter's car and killed her.And the government didn't see that video but all you were and still concerned about is a lil boy that told his mom to calm DOWN.
