Ondo: Mimiko Regains Relevance As Jegede Visits
Third Force Option Threat To PDP
By Chuks Ekpeneru
As part of efforts to emerge victorious in the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede, has visited the immediate former governor of the state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.
Jegede got Mimiko’s support to win the 2016 party’s ticket in 2016 but lost the governorship election to Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mimiko and Jegede later fell out under circumstances that led the former governor to leave the PDP and resuscitate the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP.
Jegede’s visit to Mimiko Monday night was to seek his support in the election.
Besides, it was gathered that the visit may also have been last minute efforts to wade off the influence of incumbent Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, who is being propped up by some to fly the ticket of the ZLP for the election.
Such a move is expected to nail the coffin of the PDP ahead of the election as it would create a third force that will split the opposition.
