What Return To APC Means For Atiku, Saraki, Tambuwal

When recently, Olusegun Bamgbose, the National Coordinator of a group with the name Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG, stated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar could return to the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2023 presidential election, the response was swift.

Atiku through Mr. Paul Ibe, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, described Bamgbose’s group as delusional, possibly induced by cerebral malaria, and requiring immediate intensive medical help.

“He is a third-rate seer and is urged to desist from this mischief,” Ibe said.

However, it wasn’t long after this comment that former Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara returned to the APC for the second time, citing differences with his State governor, Bala Mohammed.

As dust was being settled, a former National Chairman of the PDP, Barnabas Gemade also returned to the APC.

This energized the APC to call on all those who left the party for one reason or another to come back.

Specifically mentioned were Atiku, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former Senate President Bukola Saraki and Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state.

According to a statement by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary Yekini Nabena, “We assure all true progressives who left the party over whatever grievance to return and join ongoing efforts to reposition the APC and further achieve our pro-people plans for the country.”

It is not an understatement that this set of people helped enthrone the party in 2015, upon which it built on in 2019.

But the manner of their exit was inglorious as the ruling party using federal might and all machinations ensured they were temporarily crippled politically.

However, given the adage, once beaten twice shy, can Atiku, Saraki, Tambuwal, Kwankwaso etc fall for the APC again?

APC is aware that the 2023 elections will be tough given that President Muhammadu Buhari will not be running and hence the need to mobilize and seek peace with its estranged members.

But will Tambuwal go back and work with Senator Wamakko? Will Saraki work with the Lai Mohammed and the present Kwara Governor? Will Kwankwaso work with Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and Senator Shekarau? Or will Governor Ortom return to servitude under Senator George Akume?

For the above mentioned political gladiators, the factors and personalities that led to their exit from the APC are still there and hence the strong doubt that the political actors would succumb to the entreaties of the ruling party.
