Wike Faulted Over SUV Gifts To Judges

The decision of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to gift 41 new Sport Utility vehicles to judicial officers in the state has received mixed reactions from the public.
Wike had on Monday, handed out the Range Rover vehicles to the judges as their official vehicles. He also announced the completion of the judges’ quarters in the state with a promise that the title documents would be given to them on a latter date.
“It is my pleasure to once again welcome the honourable Chief Judge of the Rivers State High Court, the President of the Customary Court of Appeal of the state and all other honourable judges, who are here to witness the ceremonial handing over of new Sport Utility Vehicles to our judicial officers serving our state and the nation, ” Wike said.
Recall that in 2016, Wike gifted all the judges in the state 35 Porch Ford Explorer, less than four years to governor is presenting another new cars to the judges as official vehicles.
The new 41 new Sport Utility vehicles presented to judges in Rivers state by Wike has been met with harsh criticisms on the social media.
Many Nigerians faulted Wike for engaging in what they described as frivolous spending during this critical period in the economy occasioned by the COVID-19.
Some Twitter users opined that the huge resources spent on the vehicles could have been channeled towards other more productive uses.
