Ortom Says No To APC Offer, Gives Reason

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has spurned the entreaties of the All Progressives Congress, APC at the national and state levels to return to the party.

The governor cited as his reason, the fact according to him that the issues facing the nation can not be overcome through decamping from one party to the other.

Besides, he said he was comfortable leading the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state.

Shortly after the return of Yakubu Dogara and Senator Barnabas Gemade to the APC, the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, had said that efforts were ongoing to woo those who left the party during the Adams Oshiomhole era back to the party.

Those mentioned were Atiku Abubakar, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former Senate President Bukola Saraki and Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state.

The focus on Ortom followed a statement credited to the Benue State Chairman of the APC, Comrade Abba Yaro in which he insinuated that the Governor will soon be returning to the party.

But responding on Wednesday, Orgom revealed that he has no plan to return to the APC.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Terver Akase, the governor said that he was not contemplating leaving PDP for whatever reason.

“The Governor believes that the political, economic and security challenges currently facing the country cannot merely be solved by people decamping from one political party to another.

“He says what is most important at this point is for Nigerians of all walks of life to join hands and surmount the challenges confronting the nation.

“Governor Ortom is comfortably leading the PDP in Benue State to achieve development milestones for the people and he remains focused on the mandate of providing good governance to all parts of the state,” the statement stated.
