Marginalisation: Yakasai Advocates Parliamentary System
By Augustine Adah
An elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai has advocated a return to parliamentary system of government instead of the present presidential system of government as a panacea to complaints of marginalization by sections of the country.
Yakasai who is a co-founder of the Arewa Consultative Forum, (ACF), made the suggestion in Kano while speaking with the press.
Recall that the elder statesman who is not comfortable with the present system of government in the country has been agitating for a return to cabinet system of government, which he said was cheaper to operate when compared with the current presidential system of government in the country.
He further suggested zoning of political offices as a viable political option saying it would take care of the aspirations of different groups in the country.
He said, “Once power goes round, at least, once or twice, the different groups will be reassured that someday, they will get hold of the opportunity to produce the next President of the country”.
Though zoning according to Yakasai is not the best choice, his endorsement of the political option stemmed from the need to keep Nigeria together which is paramount to everyone.
