Power Show: Nasarawa House Suspends LG Chiefs

The Nasarawa State Hosue of Assembly has suspended the Executive Chairman of Nasarawa Local Government  Area of the State , Alhaji Mohammed Sani Ottos over insubordination.

The  House  equally suspended the Deputy  Chairman, Karu Local Government Area, Lawal Yakubu Karshi for the same act.

The two were faulted for showing solidarity with the erstwhile Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Aliyu Tijani Ahmed who took the House to court over his indictment on a corruption charge.

The ex-SSG defeated the House as the court annulled the report of the House of Assembly which indicted the erstwhile SSG. The House has, however, vowed to appeal the decision.

Speaker Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi announced the suspensions at the sitting of the House on Monday after Chairman, House Committee on Local Government, Barrister  Mohammed Alkali moved a motion on the insubordination activities of the affected council officials.

According to him, the chairman of Nasarawa LGA and Deputy Chairman, Karu Local government Area had recently abandoned their official duties to attend the court case of the former Secretary to the Government of the state (SSG), Alhaji Aliyu Tijani Ahmed, an act which he said was insubordination.

“The Chairman of Nasarawa Local Government Council is hereby suspended pending the investigation on his act of insubordination.

“The Deputy Chairman of Nasarawa Local Government is hereby directed to take over the affairs of the council on acting capacity with immediate effect.

According to him, the chairman of Nasarawa LGA and Deputy Chairman, Karu Local government Area had recently abandoned their official duties to attend the court case of the former Secretary to the Government of the state (SSG), Alhaji Aliyu Tijani Ahmed, an act which he said was insubordination.

“The Deputy Chairman, Karu Local Government Council should also proceed on suspension

“And the Commissioner of Police is hereby directed to provide adequate security cover to acting Chairman of Nasarawa Local government Council as the investigation lasts, ” the speaker said.

The Speaker, therefore set up a seven man committee to investigate the two affected local government officials and The speaker gave them three months to work and submit its report

“The  members of the committee  are Dr. Peter Akwe to serve as Chairman of the committee, Barrister Mohammed Alkali is the Deputy Chairman of the committee while other members of the  committee are Hon Mohammed Omadefu, Hon Mohammed Agah Muluku, Hon Aliyu Dogara, Hon Danladi Jatau while the Deputy Clerk of the House Ibrahim Musa is the Secretary of the Committee.

Earlier, the Deputy Majority leader, Hon Daniel Ogazi, who seconded the motion moved by Barrister Mohammed Alkali  noted  that members of the house  would never give room for any one tarnish  the image of the institution.
