How Man-U Lost Three Semi-Finals This Season

A Semi-finals berth was the last bus stop for Manchester United in the just concluded 2019/2020 season. The Red Devils reached three Semis which were the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Europa League.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s men were incredible prior to the Semifinals of those competitions, but fluffed their lines when it mattered most.

Firstly, the English giants eliminated Chelsea in the Carabao Cup en route their journey to the Semi-finals. Many thought this was their season of conquest. That was not to be the case as they were undone by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side in the Semi-finals over two legs. Their noisy neighbours went on to lift the trophy.

Their nightmare in the Carabao Cup came back in the FA Cup against Chelsea. After 90 minutes of normal regulation time, the blues emerged as the winners of the Semi-finals tie. It was a game where Chelsea were the better side.

They played with authority and conviction, and in the end Frank Lampard’s army trounced a Marcus Rashford led attack by 3 goals to 1.

The final straw that broke the camel’s back was their stunning defeat to Sevilla 2-1 in the Europa League. After going ahead courtesy of a Bruno Fernandes penalty in the first half, lack of concentration led to the victory of their Spanish opposition.

Sevilla overturned a one goal deficit in wonderful style. This culminated into an argument between Bruno Fernandes and Victor Lindelof after the second goal was conceded.

Hence, there is no silverware for Manchester United this season. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer will have to instill more determination in his players to get the job done by next season.
