Fayemi’s Campaign Puts Council Chair In Trouble
As Ekiti House Asks Him To Step Aside
Emmanuel Adigwe
The Chairman of Ikere Local Government, Mr. Femi Ayodele, was on Friday ordered to “step aside” by the Ekiti State House of Assembly following the viral campaign poster seeking support for Governor Kayode Fayemi’s presidential ambition.
The Assembly at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Funminiyi Afuye, stated that an investigation is ongoing into the act considered as “disregard for extant regulations”.
The viral campaign poster had requested support for Fayemi’s presidential ambition in 2023. However, the governor had rejected the campaign posters, saying he did not authorise it.
The Majority Leader of the Assembly, Chief Gboyega Aribisogan, moved the motion and he was seconded by Mr Tajudeen Akingbolu.
The lawmakers moved the motion titled, ‘Calling for investigation into the alleged unsolicited and unauthorised campaign in the media in flagrant disregard to Extant Regulations by Chairman, Ikere Local Government Area, Mr Femi Ayodele’.
The lawmakers, through its resolution, directed the matter to the committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for investigation and directed the committee to report to the House within one week and urged Ayodele “to step aside pending the outcome of the matter”.
The House also called for necessary sanctions against Ayodele as they described his action as an “embarrassment to the government of Ekiti and Governor Fayemi in particular as well as against the Electoral Act”.
