Former Super Eagles skipper John Obi Mikel opened his goalscoring account for Stoke City as they ran riot against Shrewsbury Town in a pre-season friendly game.

The Potters vanquished their opponents 5-1 as Mikel scored his team’s second goal in his first start. He joined the club on a free transfer from Turkish club Trabzonspor, earlier in the month.

However, his dream start for his new employers would go a long way in his stay at the club. He played for 45 minutes before he was substituted by Tom Ince.

Goals from Benik Afobe, Tom Ince and Tyrese Campbell secured a massive win for Stoke City. It was a good feeling for the team to enjoy another victory after a defeat in their last game against Burton Albion.

Moving forward, Mikel will aspire to inspire the team to another victory when they take on Blackpool for their League Cup fixture at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday.

On the other hand, Mikel’s gaffer O’Neil showered praises on him after the Nigerian wasted no time in making an impact.

“John’s been great in his first few days. You can see his quality, there’s no doubt, people in the group see his quality,” he was quoted by Stoke Sentinel.
