Plans For South-East Security Outfit Collapses

The plans by people of the South-East region to establish a regional security architecture may have suffered a set back as the President, Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF), Prof. Uzodinma Nwala, has resigned his membership of the South-East Security Committee.

In a letter to the Chairman, South-East Security Committee Gen. Obi Umahi (retd), dated August 25, Prof Nwala said he opted out of the committee because of the abolition of the idea of a regional security architecture for the South-East by the Chairman, South-East Governors’ Forum, and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Dave Umahi.

Prof. Nwala said the abolition of the regional security architecture for the entire South-East, and by extension, the entire Alaigbo implies that they had instead accepted the federal government’s Community Policing programme.

He said that the recent position of the governors came after the South-East had earlier rejected the idea of Community Policing given its inherent character as a policy to encourage continued serial killing, kidnapping, rape of our women, and ensuring the occupation of Igbo land by Fulani Jihadists. 

The letter reads:  “I write to resign formally as a member of the South-East Security Committee which was set up at a Joint Meeting of the Governors Forum, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF) since February 2020.

“I do this because the purpose for which this Security Committee was set up has been made null and void with the pronouncements of the Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, abolishing the idea of a Regional Security Architecture for the South-East.

“According to him, the Governors of the South East have jointly rejected the idea of a Regional Security Architecture for the entire South East and by extension, the entire Alaigbo.

“The fact that the so-called South East Security Committees set up since early 2020 and after several months, nothing had been achieved, means that it was not intended to serve any useful purpose.

“In place of a Regional Security Scheme for Alaigbo, the Governors of the South-East have accepted the Community Policing program of the Federal Government.”
