Fury Over Claims Crashed Chopper Was Not Certified

A report that the helicopter that crashed on Friday, August 28, in Opebi, Lagos State was declared not airworthy three years has sparked outrage on the social media.
An online news platform, SaharaReporters reported that the helicopter, ABell 206-B3 with the registration number 5N-BQW had been declared not-airworthy by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA.
It was reported that most of the helicopter’s equipment on board have expired as discovered by the NCAA.
A source had told the online newspaper that it could not ascertain why the aircraft was allowed to fly despite not being certified by the NCAA.
The helicopter was coming from Port Harcourt, River State when it crashed on Friday, at Opebi, Lagos State with the three persons onboard losing their lives, albeit at different times.
Two died at the spot, while the third person later died in the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.
The report has sparked outrage on the microblogging platform, Twitter as many Nigerians are wondering why an aircraft that is non-airworthy is allowed to fly.
Some argued that the corruption in the system make it very easy for the aircraft to fly without the necessary certifications.
