Nigerians React As WAEC Holds Exam In Chibok

Nigerians are expressing joy that after six years the West African Examination Council (WAEC) will conduct examinations in Chibok, Maiduguri.

GWG reports that Boko Haram insurgents had kidnapped about 200 secondary school girls in Chibok in 2014 and this affected education in Chibok as many were scared of going to school.

However, it appears that normalcy has returned to Chibok as WAEC conducted exams in the town.

According to Abdul-Khalifa Ibrahim, acting General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division, the military is eager to resuscitate education in Chibok.

Ibrahim said: “It will be gladdening to note that for the first time in the past six years, WAEC successfully held WASSCE in Chibok with the military providing security.

“We are all witnesses to what happened in the recent past like the abduction of the Chibok girls, the slaughtering of students at Buni Yadi and abduction of students at Dapchi. These are all that happened and we have turned around that narrative.

“We are really doing enough to ensure that education is resuscitated and as we all know, education is one thing that liberates the individual and liberates the minds. In the first place, this conflict would not have thrived if not that there was high illiteracy rate in this zone.”

This development has eleictied attention as some Nigerians took to the micro-blogging scheme to thank Buhari for a job well done. GWG news gathers a few of them below:
