Umeh Blasts Edo APC Chair For Lying Against Igini

Former chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Victor Umeh has called for the immediate resignation of the factional chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Edo State Col. Dave Imuse for supposedly impugning the person of Mr. Mike Igini, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Akwa Ibom State.

Umeh in a statement made available to GWG chastised the factional APC chairman for rubbishing what he described as the deserved accolades won by Igini in the public space both as an activist and as an election regulator.

Noting Imuse’s allegations that Igini was in cahoots with Governor Godwin Obaseki to rig the weekend governorship election, Umeh said:

“Ordinarily, I wouldn’t have bothered to join the fray, but I was constrained to do so after reading the direct allegations he made against Barrister Mike Igini who is unarguably  one of Nigeria’s very principled and noble Public Officers.

“It is regrettable that David Imuse feigned ignorance of the person of Barrister Mike Igini who has consistently been an Advocate of Credible Elections in Nigeria, both as an Activist and as a Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“It is very unfortunate that Col David Imuse upon retiring from the Army jumped into Politics without historical knowledge of some individuals who have done so much to put our Electoral Process in the right pedestal!

“Before being appointed a Resident Electoral Commissioner in 2010 by President Goodluck Jonathan, Barr Igini had been a thorn in the flesh of INEC over the  controversial Elections in Nigeria at the time both on Televisions and Newspapers.

“That, I am sure informed his appointment by President Jonathan. Joining INEC, Igini became a spartan and lived up to expectation. He became a relentless Officer in the fight for Credible Elections and against Electoral Vices. He was always deployed by the Commission to all troubled Election Spots that required strength of character to deliver clean Elections.

“One Case in point was the Imo State Supplementary Governorship Election in 2011 where he wrestled the PDP to the ground and salvaged the Election, rebuffing huge monetary Offers to compromise the Election! The PDP in Imo State will not forget that experience in a hurry.

“He repeated same feat in several other places. In fact, fraudulent politicians dreaded Mike Igini and never wanted him posted to come and conduct Elections in their places. The fear of Igini became the beginning of Wisdom!

“Following his acknowledged good deeds and high integrity, President Mohammad  Buhari appointed Igini for a Second Term as Resident Electoral Commissioner!

“It is with this backdrop that we should not fold our arms and allow David Imuse to disparage one of our best in INEC in the name of political grandstanding.

“It is our duty to protect good Nigerians who have been above board and historically excelled in the discharge of their duties!

“In the circumstance, I want to join many Nigerians who are angered by Rtd Col David Imuse’s ranting against Mike Igini and hereby demand his immediate resignation from the Polity! He has done the Army irreparable damage and a huge disservice to the discipline which Officers of the Armed Forces are known for. He should quit Politics and go for Resettlement at the Nigerian Army Resettlement Center at Oshodi.”
