Concern AS COVID-19 Curve Rises Again

The country’s health authorities were at the weekend bound to be concerned after an a resurgence of new cases of the COVID-19 pandemic squashed expectations of taming the disease.

221 new cases of the pandemic were reported on Friday, the highest in the week as the curve of the pandemic began to rise again.

The concern arose from the steady rise of new cases in the last few days. The upswing was also matched in a similar resurgence in Lagos which was the hotbed of the pandemic in the country.

90 new cases were reported on Tuesday, September 15, 126 cases on Wednesday September 16, 131 new cases on Thursday, September 17 before the jump on Friday to 221 cases.

The authorities in Lagos are also bound to be concerned as the surge at the national level reflected the developments in Lagos.

Lagos State on Friday reported 49 new cases, the highest in the week.

It follows  27 new cases on Wednesday September 16 and 45 cases on Thursday, September 17.

The 221 new cases reported on Friday brought the total number of infections recorded in the country to 56,956 confirmed with 48,305 persons discharged. One more death on Friday brought the total number of deaths associated with the pandemic to 1,094.
