The police have dismissed the assertions of police harassment by Governor Nyesom Wike saying that he is not a sacred cow and that the law is no respecter of anybody.

The senior police officer, Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Leye Oyebanji speaking midway into the election said the police was following extant regulations and the constitution in its approach to the election.

His assertions came against the background of complaints from near and far about 300 policemen isolating Governor Wike who is the chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council for the Edo election.

The complaint was against the background of insinuations that while Wike was locked in that contemporary governors from the APC were given the leeway.

Speaking in an interview on AIT’s Security Watch programme monitored by GWG, the DIG said:

“With regards to police arrangements, with regards to police protection, of lives and property, we don’t regard anybody as a sacred cow and the law is no respecter of anybody.

“We are going to follow the constitution to the letter. We have already said it loud and clear that we are going to withdraw our own security aides and those attached to VIPs and we are living by example and the law is for everybody and it doesn’t respect anyone and that is the law we are following.

“But for now, there is no threat and we are in synergy with all sister agencies and we are going to do all within the law to make this Edo election free, fair, credible and that can be used to make as a reference point.”
