APC Split Ahead Of Bayelsa West Senate Race
By Chuks Ekpeneru
The All Progressives Congress, APC in Bayelsa State has been split in its approach to the Bayelsa West Senate contest with members being divided over the zoning of the position.
The two Local Government Areas in Bayelsa West, Ekeremor and Sagbama Local Government Areas have in the past shared the Senate and the House of Representatives seats between them.
With the House of Representatives position occupied by Fred Agbedi from Ekeremor, stakeholders in the APC under the aegis of APC Grassroots mobilization Sagbama/Ekeremor have come out against the emergence of Peremobowei Ebebi also from Ekeremor as the APC candidate.
Leader of the stakeholders, and Chairman APC Grassroots mobilization Sagbama/Ekeremor, Mr. Ebide Brown, said the party would be unfair to allow the two National Assembly positions in the district to go to Ekeremor.
According to him, the two had not gone to any single council since the commencement of democratic governance in 1999.
Ebebi, a former deputy governor of the state is believed to pose a serious threat to the aspiration of the immediate past governor of the state Serikae Dickson to occupy the seat. Dickson is the candidate of the PDP while Ebebi is flying the flag of the APC for the Senate bye-election.
Mr. Brown while endorsing Dickson said that “the Sagbama/ Ekeremor people are grateful to the former Governor for the construction of the Sagbama/Ekeremor Road, a university, a polytechnic, general hospitals and several projects in the Sagbama/Ekeremor Senatorial District.
Stakeholders at the meeting included Hon. Peres Adakuru, financial sec APC Grassroots mobilization Sagbama/Ekeremor, Stanley Beralade leader Amanaigbene community,Tabu Pudiya, Coordinator Foutorugbene Community, APC grassroots mobilization sagbama/ekeremo, Kesta Femone Kesta, Coordinator, Aleibiri community.
