Emir Of Zazzau: Kingmakers Shortlist 3 Names

The stage is now set for the Kaduna State Government to appoint a new Emir of Zaria following the submission of three names for consideration.
The 18th Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, died on Monday at the age of 84.
Special Adviser on Media and Communication to the State Governor, Muyiwa Adekeye, confirmed that the government has received the report of the kingmakers on the appointment of the next emir.
He said the Secretary to the State Government, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, “can confirm that the report of the kingmakers has now been submitted to the Commissioner of Local Government; a step that will trigger the next sequence of events in the chain of reporting and security vetting.”
“Upon receipt of the correspondence from the commissioner, the SSG (Secretary to the State Government) will avail the security agencies of the names on the shortlist for the necessary checks. It is the duty of the SSG to forward the recommendations and the associated security report to the Governor for his consideration.”
Meanwhile, Governor Nasir el-Rufai confirmed in a tweet that he is still waiting for the recommendations of the state commissioner responsible for chieftaincy matters on the next Emir of Zazzau.
He said the commissioner “is reviewing the 11 aspirants and the assessment of all of them by the kingmakers.”
He added: “I will consider the recommendations then and select the next Emir In Sha Allah.”
In another tweet, he said: “I am on my second book throwing more light on the emergence of the Emir of Zazzau Jafaru in 1937.
“I have also reviewed the secret files on his selection, & that of Emir Shehu Idris. I await the recommendations of the Commissioner responsible for chieftaincy matters.
“This @elrufai has not received anything.”
The three contestants reportedly shortlisted include Alhaji Bashir Aminu, Iyan Zazzau; Alhaji Muhammed Munnir Jafaru, Yariman Zazzau; Alhaji Aminu Shehu Idris, Turakin Karamin Zazzau
