The All Progressives Congress, APC in Delta State has been thrown into turmoil and soul searching ahead of the defection of the immediate past governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan from its fold to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Dr. Uduaghan’s defection follows recent reports of the former governor making peace with his successor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa after the two of them went on the war path before the 2019 General Election.

Besides visiting the Government House recently, Dr. Uduaghan was captured in a tête-à-tête last weekend that also involved Delta State’s political godfather, Chief James Onanefe Ibori.

The imminent defection of Dr. Uduaghan follows his earlier defection from the PDP to the APC just before the 2019 General Election. He subsequently contested and lost the contest for the Delta South Senatorial seat.

Dr. Uduaghan it was gathered is expected to return to the PDP on Monday by registering at the Unit 1, Ward 6, Abigborodo PDP chapter in Warri North Local Government Area on Monday morning.

Uduaghan, Ibori and Okowa in a meeting last week. It was the first time Uduaghan would meet Okowa in more than one year.

News of the former governor’s defection has, however, been met with mixed reactions with some alleging that he came to the APC to do damage and was back to his traditional base.

Dismissing claims that Uduaghan was returning to the PDP with thousands of supporters, an APC chieftain said:

“He doesn’t have supporters, he came alone and returned alone. We shouted and complained about his mission in APC but our people didn’t listen. He pulled us down in his senatorial district and created more division in APC before leaving,” one APC chieftain said.

Another APC chieftain said:

“Guess what? all corruption cases were immediately dropped and all his sins forgiven. Having achieved peace and helped the PDP to stop Ogboru from becoming governor, he returned to his party which he truly didn’t defect from. Dr. Uduaghan is truly a smart guy.”

Another chieftain who commented in a Delta APC chatroom said:
“Uduaghan came into APC with the impression and conviction of National that he has the financial capacity to run delta A{C gubernatorial Election and other financial obligations that concern Delta State. Adams Oshiomhole who was the Chairman then and cousin to Uduaghan entrusted him the state with Delta South Senatorial ticket. The rest is history.”

Another stakeholder said:
“Is it true, that Uduaghan (the John the Baptist) without followers has returned to the PDP? If yes, you can now see why we @APC lost Delta State woefully, yet allegation of betrayal is wrongly woven around someone else’s neck like a gold plated necklace! Funny enough, millions of his types abound, enjoying Federal government pecks and privileges. APC is doomed!”

Another stakeholder said:

“He only came to APC to cause confusion, which he succeeded in doing. I only feel for the people’s general who followed his counsel, and had misunderstandings with the DSP.”

Another stakeholder also in another APC chatroom said:

“Ogboru brought in Uduaghan to undermine DSP (Senator Ovie Omo-Agege) now Uduaghan has returned to the PDP after ruining Ogboru.

“DSP did not betray Victor Ochei. He only supported Ogboru against him. It is not betrayal in any way. It is called politics.”
