Storm Over Who Gave Mercy Eke $10k Birthday Gift
Was It Boyfriend Ike Or Friends?
By Ella Makondo
Controversy was brewing on Wednesday morning after Ex – Big Brother Naija ( BBNaija) season 4 winner Mercy Eke got a $10,000 gift on the occasion of her birthday.
Earlier it emerged that the BBNaija 2019 winner had gifted herself a Range Rover to mark the occasion of her 27th birthday.
That news was followed by the news in some online media (Not GWG) where it was reported that her lover Ike Onyeama whom she met on the stage of the BBNaija house in 2019 was the one who sent her the $10,000.
Mercy who is now a Nigerian media personality, actress, video vixen and entrepreneur from Imo State was the first woman to win the grand prize.
It was reported that Ike decided to acknowledge his lover’s birthday on Tuesday and made the social media to stand still with the surprise he gave Mercy on her birthday.
In a video posted on social media, Mercy was seen counting the money which came in dollars.
She was overwhelmed with joy as she jumped and fell to the ground, rolling on the floor with excitement when she received the gift.
However, some others debunked the claim that the $10,000 cash gift came from Ike as it was alleged that the gift came from Mercy’s friends.
Patra Melody tweeted late on Tuesday:
Ike, in a recent interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reaffirmed that he was still in a romantic relationship with Mercy Eke, thought the two are yet to be traditionally engaged.
“We are still doing our thing, we have not officially done the engagement or moved in together yet, but she comes to my place every other day and I go to her place as well,” Mr Onyeama said.
“We still go to each other’s house and try not to overdo it, maybe stay the night or two, but not too much, just because of tradition.
“When it comes to business, things have gotten a lot better, before it was more like all of us as ex-housemates were in a competition with each other, but now, everyone is finding their place and we are all comfortable helping each other out.
“I will say the Mercy & Ike show was like a blessing because before the show, we were both focused on our fan base and trying to keep our fan base strong, it was really an idea that promoting one another will weaken our brand.
“Like if I was to promote Mercy, it will weaken my brand or if she was to promote my brand it will weaken her brand, that is the kind of idea people were giving us,” he said.
