How Chelsea Dismantled Crystal Palace
By Ekene Dike
Chelsea had four reasons to smile as they beat Crystal Palace 4-0 at Stamford Bridge. Ben Chilwell who was handed his first league start, rewarded Frank Lampard’s faith in him by scoring the first goal and providing the assist for the second goal.
A quiet afternoon was the case during the first half of the game. There were feeble attempts on goal by both sides. Roy Hodgson’s outfit were more focused on staying solid at the back while Chelsea tried to undo the strong defensive formation of their opponents.
Timo Werner was the closest to finding the opener in the first half as it ended 0-0 at the half time break.
Five minutes into the second half, Chelsea drew first blood courtesy of a goal from Ben Chilwell. He became the first English player to score on his Premier League debut since Paul Hughes against Derby County in January 1997. A fine delivery from him which met Kurt Zouma’s head led to the second goal.
Set-piece specialist Jorginho tucked away two penalties for Chelsea to complete the humiliation of Crystal Palace who had beaten Manchester United earlier this season. Much credit goes to Ben Chilwell for a sublime debut match for the Blues.
